I've never really experienced that inter-company us vs them hostility. Im sure it happens but generally, from my perspective at least, the consensus seems to be exactly what you say!
The number one reason I pick up games nowadays is because I know a lovely person or bunch of people working on it and I want to share in their excitement and passion.
