A security officer's job is to observe, deter, record, report. Unless commissioned to carry a gun, they are not suppose to assist. After the San Luis Shooting of a security officer - Galveston I told my bosses I will never approach any suspect again, I'll just call GPD/Sheriff.

REPORT. You said it. Did she??
-
Never called the police during the entire encounter and actually got in the way of responding officers because she was too busy recording to see what was going on. Also left the scene without turning recording over to police to help with the investigation.

Glad she was fired.

She was being a jerk with a smug look on her face while doing so. After circling him, not looking scared one bit, filming them, she left and took her phone and video with her. She didn't care on bit on the cop's safety. She deserved to be fired!

Being on both sides of this coin, when you are a security guard, you suppose to observe report and be seen, as a Sworn Peace Officer you should always be on your A game. And this Officer was not at all.
-
Let’s see if we can identify the person in this conversation that has no idea what they are talking about. Lets also identify the person who has never handcuffed a violent felon. Please tell us your valiant tales of being on your “A game”

Really let's do that. took down a man in the hallways of a school with a shotgun, it's about being prepared for a job period, Whether you to use in a job or 25 years in the job
-
Sure you did.

So anyone commenting on here, you’d be okay with fighting for your life while someone just recorded the fray and did NOTHING to summon help for you from police? Seriously??

Of course we are glad offenders are taken down, but I work security. Citizens, bystanders, security or anyone has free rights to video-taping. Had it gone the other way you'd be thanking the security officer for videoing. That security company can be sued for firing her.

Stop rationalizing the security guards abominable actions. If this were a civilian attempting to control a rapist or school shooter, anybody that didn’t help would be called a coward or worse. Cops are not super human, we can’t expect them to protect us without our help.
-
My own PD & Sheriff Dept said (to security) in event of Active Shooter, do not be a hero. Run or hide, let police do their job. No they would not be cowards, they would be wise to protect their own life. PD knows the risk when the take oath. PD should have called for PD backup

Did you track down the rest of the bystanders there and get them fired from their jobs?
-
Well none of them were so very close to the fight filming like she was...so yup.
-
You mean like the person filming the person filming, or the guy at the pump right on the other side of the cop? I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my mom out on the street fighting crime.
-
But...she can film. We have too many people "filming" these days. She chose to film. She filmed in her work uniform. She was up close and personal to a fight where she could've been hurt by the right. Excuses excuses. Her firing was on her.

2nd tweet, BTW, my bosses are police & Sheriff's. I have multiple cams/voice recorders in car/house. I record anything suspicious. Everyone is watching and recording these days & has right to. Her intent could have been good. Security sucks, low pay, high risk, no big job loss.

Non-commissioned, or unarmed, security officers’ duties are limited to the functions of observation and reporting. They are not armed, they are not required to intervene. I work for both PD and Sheriff's and we are told, "You are not law enforcement."I would radio officer down
-
Girl are you not able to comprehend what she did? Which was NOTHING. No 911 call, no “officer needs assistance” NOTHING. She VIDEOED. Common decency isn’t her forte and yours either apparently. Not to mention common friggin sense. Stop defending the indefensible.
