Whoa, this is an astonishing review of Hawkwind: Days Of The Underground , many thanks to for his insightful words - "they offered not just a counter-culture, but a counter-reality to a paranoid and profoundly disillusioned decade"

I keep watching those first few seconds and marvelling at how he does it. It's a beautiful piece of physical comedy in which Emu seems 100% real.

Hawkwind: Days Of The Underground has been getting some great ratings on Amazon, but not many reviews - so I just wanted to highlight this absolute humdinger from Stephen Andrews aka Reaper ;-) If anybody else wants to write a review, please feel free!

This is my favourite track from Bob Calvert's Freq, with a great opening lyric: "There's home computers now that can keep an eye on you / They talk with Swedish accents and tell you what to do" Prescient, apart from the Swedish bit ;-)

I remember getting this when it came out, and being rather confused - I knew Calvert had been Hawkwind's singer, but didn't understand at the time how he had got here (and Kerrang's review was a good deal less generous!). It is of course a visionary work...

It was Adam Curtis's blog that put me onto this tremendous Hells Angels documentary from 1973 - see if you can spot the Hawkwind reference at 5.46 (you can watch more Hawkwind-related docs at )

My friend Adam Curtis has made this trail for his imminent new series 'Can't Get You Out of My Head: An Emotional History of the Modern World.' The trail is exclusive to this tweet and will exist nowhere else! I love the series and its wild range of stories.

This is a fantastic read for any ⁦⁩ fan. I’ve been a fan since ‘72 and there’s so much I’m enjoying learning about this original band. Thanks due to ⁦⁩ for a riveting, compelling book. Naturally listening to the mighty Hawks.😎👍🏻

"Lots of room" ;-) Hawkwind and VDGG played together a lot in the 70s...

Just came across this in an Oct 69 copy of NME - "as the fiery flood ignites the funeral pyre of Earth" - apocalyptic space rock before Hawkwind! ;-) Great ad (and yes, that's the young Phil Collins at the bottom), though the album itself is somewhat underwhelming...

Talking of Germany, do you like gawping at vintage rock posters from the 70s and lamenting "if only..."? If so, then you might want to spend some time here: Hawkwind are of course featured a few times, see if you can spot them all...

Hawkwind had a significant fanbase in (West) Germany from early on. Here's the readers' poll for 1970 from German magazine Sounds, with Hawkwind's debut winning best LP from a new group, and the band itself coming 2nd in best new group...
