Recruiting good trainees is the most important component of a PI's success. But as with student evaluations of teaching, some of the most powerful sexism comes from below. Eg, some men tolerate female bosses badly, shrinking the pool of potential recruits. 2/5

I am grateful for all the incredible young men who have no problem with a female PI and come and work with me. They should be rewarded for their lack of sexism. Instead, they may get fewer speaking invitations than they would if I were male. 3/5

If you are only inviting me to make up a female quota, i.e. you aren't interested enough in the work such that you are happy for someone who knows that same work better than me to present it instead, then don't invite me. 4/5

I am grateful for the times my PI put my name forward early in my career, and want to do the same for my trainees, when I judge that they are ready. Thank you to those that take them! (Score rate of 2/3 in recent months, so not as bad as this thread might suggest). 5/5
