You're selling the potential of the Future You to people. You're buying the potential of the Future Them from people. Is it easy for them to Opt-In?

Every decision made about you and your opportunities is made in a room you’re not in. And what they’re saying is what you’ve taught them. So think about what you want to teach people about your potential.

How to #futureproof your career? Entry-level - take a look at each of these companies in your next 1/1 with your boss, share what you learned about 3 of them. People mgr - above + share with your team. Executive - you should already know about these. #invest in the Future You

Thinking about the lies we tell ourselves. Like.. I'm bad at math. I'm not a good writer. I'm not good at negotiating. What lies do you tell yourself that just aren't true?

I went down a thread rabbit hole on pilot staffing issues. If you're not already, your business strategy needs something more robust than "recruit more x" in your strategy deck.

Read the 🧵- this pipeline issue is going to pop up in a *lot* of industries sooner or later. We lost people and generational knowledge in the pandemic. The impact? TBD twitter.com/bgolus/status/…

Someone asked, "What do you do for your clients?" This was my answer. What is yours?

Remind them they're not awesome by accident. Teach them how to explain what that awesome is to other people. Resulting in other people choosing them for what makes them awesome. #everyonewins

You have a unique way of decision-making You have a unique way of being creative You have a unique way of sharing information This strategy works if all you are confident in your style & curious about everyone else. Do you know your Future You Framework? joannabloor.com/future-you-lan

Interacting in today's increasingly connected work environment is easier than ever, but achieving productive, value-creating collaboration is not. These techniques boost the effectiveness and efficiency of interactions so teams can get things done ✅
For the VP You disempowered your HM. Is micromanaging the goal? You messaged lack of trust. Is "my way is the only way" your goal? Turn the tables and think about how you'd react if your boss did this to you. People are potential. This approach kills it. #potential #optin

Q. Had a great interview last week. Today the HM called to check in and tell me his VP wants him to re-run the job ad to "see more candidates." So, he says, he has to go through that process. What should I do?
Show this thread
"Will you" is very different from "Do you" If you're interviewing if you're optimizing for "do you" then you're missing the opportunity. Help them recognize what you "will do"

I love this Bezos framework for hiring. 1) Will you admire this person? 2) Will this person raise the average level of effectiveness of the group they're entering? 3) Along what dimension might this person be a superstar?

And from the opposite perspective. If you expect to get "exceeds expectations" for doing your job, then you haven't exceeded expectations. Work isn't like school; an "A" is "meets expectations."

A thought.. You have a job where the person needs to think and react quickly with little to no information. Hire Candidate A known for their exceptional logic skills or Candidate B known for exceptional empathy skills? Find out the answer live 8/26 Details below #futureofwork

"the argument is easy to sell" You're chosen because the person(s) choosing has created a story in their head about who they think the future you will be. This is what they're selling. Not your qualifications. They're buying & selling the story of the Future You. #potential

No one gets fired for saying “we need a more seasoned person to fix this” I call it VP-ism Why? Technically, you’ll always be “right”. Experience helps. The argument is easy to sell And it is a convenient smoke screen
Yes and... The lesson here is not actually that they get in synch. It's the cans beneath the board. They're the thing nudging the metronomes to harmony. If you want synchronicity across your team, they need both time and the cans to manifest. #potential #teamwork

Yes and... Are you/your manager aligned about what your potential is? - most people I talk to don't even know. Do you want them to take an active role in growing and developing? - some people on your team who are good just as they are, and that's ok. #optinequation

I guess it's good that "always" is higher than "never." The rest of it isn't too good.
