Many of the top DIY and Craft channels are predominantly females. Arts, crafts, DIYs, and even toy customizations are not exclusively child-content and should not be considered as such just because they are playful. Many adults enjoy being creative.

Dear YouTube,
I am concerned about the new rules regarding content that is considered appealing to kids. The category is so broad, and mostly discriminatory towards majoritarily female creators.

Many of the “male” DIYers use materials like metal, wood, and heavy machinery; they will not be impacted because their materials are not considered to be “childish”. This goes back to the same idea where “female” dominated careers made significantly less than “male” dominated...

careers. Or even females within the same career earn less than their male counterparts in the same domain. I urge you to reconsider finer arts and crafts and customizations as ART and educational for all ages. The manner in which content is presented should be more important

than the item itself. A Squishy can be played with, yes, but it can also be turned into a new work of art. A craft kit can be played with, yes, but it can also be a great way for consumers (those with purchasing power) to know how to save their money.

THE MANNER the content is presented, should matter more than what is on screen. Dolls in a video can be played with, but Doll Customization is also transformative art and a special way to express ones creative side. Please, do not put all creators in the same boat.

Where does the line cross over from geek fandom celebration, to child-appealing? Context and presentation matter…not just the subject. Please consider some of my favorite creators, who are artists, crafters, and DIYers who are mostly female, who would suffer from this prejudice

that their talents and passions would be considered “childish”. Here are some examples of creators: 1.
@NerdECrafter (who brought this issue to my attention) she reviews craft kits (telling you whether or not they're worth the money) and make sculptures with clay and the likeShow this thread -
2. poketubers like
@BirdKeeperToby and@Twintendo_ who talk about Pokémon and sometimes even play the games 3. Artists like@Dollightfully and Moriah Elizabeth, who breaths new life into old "toys" making them into works of artShow this thread -
Please don't forse most of my favourite YouTubers to close their channels, I'm begging you,
@YouTube
if they close of then I'll only watch True Crime videoes and probably get so paranoid I need to quit YouTube all together. @pewdiepie can't be my only source of joyful contentShow this thread
