Enjoy the movie. Hate the man (director). In the end, we move on. Even still, he is an awful man!
The entire premise of the movie revolves around the relationship between a grown man and a 12 y/o girl

Indeed. At least Leon wasn't trying to do anything with her. She just had a misunderstanding of how relationships work. Poor Leon.

It doesn't matter that he didn't encourage it, he didn't reject it entirely and he still let it happen (i.e they slept in the same bed together right after she asked for him to take her virginity) It didn't feel right and sadly my suspicions were correct
