Though I agree I also question it at times b/c exposure to art & culture can also be a matter of class & privilege (internet has helped tho)
This is definitely a factor, but generally speaking, proactive and more mature minds are always going to be seeking out deeper content

"Always seeking out" is why I feel it's more about how tastes change over time, since what content is deep/important at x time is subjective

for theory sake I would nitpick & say judging one snapshot of tastes as "surefire" might be unfair. Esp since one could born into good taste
