I read through the replies, but generally speaking art is evolving to become very smooth-faced, simpler, cuter and easier to digest. Compare older animes to now-- it's everywhere
That I can agree with. I thought you were just talking about the Pokémon games in general.
It is still apparent in pokemon imo, look at the alolan universe or even the evolution of pikachu-- but in general I only speak up if I see a trend in art at large
That's the thing about art. It constantly changes. Where once was a time people painted priests/saints/gods, we now do anime waifus and video game characters. Where once we had high details we go for minimalism now. And you know what? That can change back or go into something new
So right now, sure we might be getting some minimal Pokémon. Maybe it fits with the fact they no longer do 2D sprites and instead 3D models fully animated. But in the future I can see them going back towards high leveled detailing on their art. We'll see how it goes.
