WATCH: Chief Justice John Roberts tells Sen. Schumer that if there's a tie vote during the trial, "it would be inappropriate for me, an unelected official from a different branch of government, to assert the power to change that result so that the motion would succeed."

Roberts says he will not break any ties, finding the Salmon Chase precedent from the Andrew Johnson trial insufficient. “It would be inappropriate for me, an unelected official from another branch of government” to decide matters that should be decided by the Senate.

Explaining her no-witness vote, Sen. Murkowski says some her colleagues want to “drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice.” Her vote will spare Chief Justice Roberts the decision on whether to break a 50-50 tie on witnesses.

Receiving the LBJ Liberty and Justice For All Award tonight, Justice Ginsburg lamented polarization in Congress these days. “My hope is that some day there will be patriots on both sides of the aisle that are determined to stop the dysfunction we’re now experiencing.”

Adam Schiff doesn’t take the bait. “I would not say that it contributes to a loss of confidence in the chief justice,” he said. “I think the chief justice has presided admirably.”

My question is not about a “whistleblower” as I have no independent information on his identity. My question is about the actions of known Obama partisans within the NSC and House staff and how they are reported to have conspired before impeachment proceedings had even begun.
