What a load of nonsense. Like any citizen I have every right to offer an opinion. I love how I see so many architectures spend so much time criticizing other architects yet when I offer an opinion you have a fit !

Well, Mayor Watson, I'm a critic and not an architect. You are a public official who has a responsibility to the city present and future. If you're going to commission "good design," you need to understand what that means.

The central library is a good example of the brutalist architecture of the mid 20th century. As a public space it is a failure. Concrete libraries with no windows are not something we should be replicating!

That is just the kind of thing people said about High Victorian buildings in the 1950s. Fashions come and go. Common sense changes.

It's actually pretty hard to find architects publicly criticizing each other. That's why we have architecture critics, historians, academics, etc. Also, opinion =/ criticism.

The problem with most architecture critics these days is that they're little more than PR for architects, with real criticism very rare

When the mayor gives a speech standing behind a podium with the crest of the city, it doesn't look like a citizen presenting an opinion. In this scenario, you should paint Ottawa on a positive light.

As for opinion, merely starting that you are not a fan of the architectural style of the current building gets your point across.
