Journos! THR drilled into me back in the day that Oscar “nod” and “nom” were two different things. That “nod” meant you won. What’s your opinion on how “Oscar nod” should be used? As a nomination or as a win?

I can certainly follow the logic of that now, sure. I had always felt it meant a nod like an "acknowledgement" in the way that gesture tends to seem when someone physically does it.

But now I see that from their perspective, they're seeing a nod as more of the gesture made when, say, someone votes with a nod of their head. Complicated, this stuff. :)
