The iconic SoCal business I was surprised to learn was black-owned was Thomas Guides, before GPS & mergers killed it.
I delivered pizza's and used one on the regular. Had no idea.
I moved here in the late 90s when the first thing L.A. newcomers did was buy a Thomas Guide for the car. Wore out three.
Thomas Guides were a true test of one's eyesight and ability to follow a straight line. I couldn't master it
