I’ll jump in. Phillips is arguing that the current climate has scared off big names from comedy. This is false. Disappointing box office in recent years has led studios to greenlight fewer projects, and the $20 mill. paydays are gone. So comic stars have moved to drama/streaming

The much-debated “cancel culture” has yet to cancel a film. Flip side: a raunchy comedy like Good Boys was a hit, while progressive, better reviewed comedies like Booksmart & Long Shot struggled. Phillips is wrong about the market. Fact-checking is not proving his point.

We're not outraged that he's saying something offensive, because he's not. He's just saying something idiotic and provably wrong. "All the f*cking funny guys are like, ‘F*ck this shit, because I don’t want to offend you’" is a not a threat. If anything it sounds utopian. 1/X

He's arguing that the only funny people are offensive male comics and that it's some kind of tragedy if they don't grow up and realize there other forms of comedy that aren't based on sexism, racism and cruelty, and that there have been for centuries. 2/X
