I'm very conflicted about this. On one hand you cannot accurately predict the actions of a madman; that's what makes him a mad man. That being said I feel like telling the people of Aurora that they are processing their trauma wrong is also not right.

No, I get it. Thing is the Aurora shooter wasn't inspired by Joker. The prosecutor has said as much so it's only perpetuating this false claim about the character and towards a movie not even involved with that shooting.

I really don't like where this selective outrage trend is heading. Note that it happens in *both* political directions, so it isn't necessarily a too-woke/SJW-rooted trend: The Hunt a few weeks ago, and now Joker.

No, simply Appeal to film makers to remind them of how certain movies and concepts may be received by the public. This is tricky. If the movie wasn't about Joker, but generic psycho person the conversation would be different.

How about banning assault weapons instead?
-
Automatic weapons are already banned.

Agreed. Censoring art isn’t the answer. I’m not old enough to remember what backlash there was for movies like Clockwork Orange, Taxi Driver, Natural Born Killers, etc.
-
I remember my teacher in high school telling the class that Natural Born Killers should be banned and it's the direction our society it headed in. Give it 10 years. That was 20+ years ago.
