One time in grade school I had this rivalry with another kid. We were both the “art kids” in the class. It eventually came down to a contest to determine who was the better artist. 1/3

We’d each draw R2-D2 and our classmates would decide who did a better job. As we were drawing, I remember the kids running from my desk to his, and back again, to watch our progress. Exciting! And in the end, the decision came down: I was the winner, no argument. 2/3

But then I saw his drawing - a fine 4th Grade rendition of Artoo with perspective and detail and everything, while mine was this flat, uninspired thing. I’d only won because the other kids liked me more. But everyone knew the silent truth. Still haunts me. 3/3
