Christ, Sony, bad call. Spider-Man is out of the MCU, no more Feige-produced Marvel movies https://deadline.com/2019/08/kevin-feige-spider-man-franchise-exit-disney-sony-dispute-avengers-endgame-captain-america-winter-soldier-tom-rothman-bob-iger-1202672545/ …pic.twitter.com/rPWc9ENIFy

I just can’t let Disney off the hook though. The whole deal was mutually beneficial and they were like, “well, how about if it’s a lot less beneficial for you now, Sony?”

Weird that Disney just made a movie that made a BILLION DOLLARS and they somehow decided that getting ZERO of those dollars maybe wasn't cool with them. Who could've imagined THAT would happen?

But there’s a lot more to it, because they also were able to use Spider-Man in three MCU movies and (most importantly) make all the merchandise money from the character, Far From Home products included. They profit enormously in the long run.

Doesn't really make a difference. The bottom line is that Disney/Marvel was doing all the work - ALL the work - and Sony was just paying the bill. Without the MCU, there's no billion dollar movie. Without Feige, there's no billion dollar movie.

Sony was doing the ABSOLUTE minimum to ride those coattails, and the only reason they were allowed to is because they unfortunately happen to have the movie rights. Now they've fooled themselves into thinking they had something to do with this success.

But the genie's out of the bottle now. People have seen what Marvel can do with Spider-Man. The poorness of Sony's efforts is going to be more readily apparent than ever before. Sony's in for a harsh wake-up call.

If they can continue to make movies that bring in as much as Venom (and hell, Amazing Spider-Man 2), they will still make more than they would with a 50/50 split with Disney. And I'm guessing the Spider-Verse sequel is gonna see a very nice jump in the box office.

That's a BIG "if". Feels pretty much all downhill from here. Spider-Verse will probably make more money, but the only reason that first movie was so good was because it was the little animated side-project that Sony didn't care much about.

Sony cared a lot about that movie and have since hired its creators to a massive deal to make more Spider-Man projects for TV.

I have to assume Sony really will multi-verse their way out of the jam Peter's in by having Spider-Gwen and Miles show up to help him in the next sequel?

Heh, that would be amazing (or spectacular or sensational)
