100% A perfect example is The Irishman. I think how that turns out is going to be very telling for the future.

Yep! I can't wait to see it. But I also know a movie that pricey and about that kind of subject these days is never going to make back its money.

But don't you think something is lost by not having a theatrical release? The feeling of seeing something for the first time with an excited crowd? Netflix can't beat that.

Yes, but a pricey movie released theatrically that flops will make it tougher for a director to make another film, esp. a passion project. If Silence was a smash then Scorsese's The irishman might not have ended made by Netflix. Mowgli (and Serkis) was spared by going to Netflix.
