My take-away from recent review article paper of P. Godefroid -- 3 (of N) open challenges in 1) how to engineer exhaustive symbolic testing in a cost-effective manner, 2) how to automate the generation of input grammars, and 3) how to effectively fuzz distributed apps

Check out the RLCheck preprint! Cool idea to try and use reinforcement learning to tune generators to generate more valid (assumption-satisfying) inputs. With

Finally uploaded video of my talk "Expanding the Reach of Fuzz Testing", which I gave at UMass Amherst! Introduces PerfFuzz, FuzzFactory, FairFuzz, Zest + JQF, RLCheck and Autopandas 😃

The assumption that information was free to acquire was wrongly made twice. Once by physicists (see Maxwell's demon), and once by economists. Quite interesting and shows how non-intuitive information acquisition cost is.

"AFLNet: A Greybox Fuzzer for Network Protocols", my joint work with & Abhik, is accepted as a testing tool paper . It was motivated by many requests from AFL users for . Stay tuned for preprint & tool (with funder's approval).

If French people would feel represented by their parliament, I think their wouldn't be such conflict. It's not all normal that all major laws need to negotiated with unions.

We made a website which shows a genealogy of fuzzers: Basically, this is a fork from the one we have in the survey, but which we can keep up-to-date and where anyone can contribute at:

This unfolding story deserves wider attention. ACM, the main academic society for computer science, has signed a despicable letter opposing open access. Computer scientists are shocked and figuring out how to protest. This is about the future of knowledge.

I do have a masters degree in ecnonomics, but I've not followed the recent debate closely. But I think it's fair to say that the neo-classic arguments of free market will solve our problems are beautiful, but empircal support is not very strong.

I wrote a small tool to "recreate" AFL's mutation chain from a given seed/crash. It can also produce a graph that shows the relationship between seeds and the mutations that led to the creation of those seeds Hopefully it's useful to peeps

Deep learning achieved great success in modeling sensory processing. However, such models raise questions about the very nature of explanation in neuroscience. Are we simply replacing one complex system (biological circuit) with another (a deep net), without understanding either?

Much of what’s being sold as "AI" today is snake oil. It does not and cannot work. In a talk at MIT yesterday, I described why this happening, how we can recognize flawed AI claims, and push back. Here are my annotated slides:

Really cool stuff! Key insight: A grammar-based fuzzer is essentially an interpreter for a random bitstream in the language of grammar symbols. F1 applies tricks from VM-land such as supercompilation and context threading to get massive speedups in input generation.

A lot of the best novels out there were the writer's first novel. Something they were utterly unqualified to write, improvised out of necessity. No one is a writer before writing a novel. But breakthrough works can come from anyone, seemingly qualified or not.

Very good thread on the danger of finding a technological solution before thinking about the problem you are trying to solve.

How to analyze programs or scale to a given degree of accuracy (0 false positives, bounded false negatives)? Been exploring results from foundations of ML and statistical learning theory. Paper link below. Collab/data welcome. [Thread]

Those who deny the drop in global poverty, or who claim it's all about China, will have a lot of trouble dealing with this graph.
