The entire mainstream #media is biased towards the Democratic Party establishment and that influences its coverage in both overt and subtle ways. This is an excellent example. It was only an “upset” if you weren’t paying attention. #journalism

The reason is that America is afraid of socialists because they want to do something that scares the capitalists: give regular people security and power over their own lives
-
Bernie Sanders’ campaign showed that millions of Americans are no longer afraid of the word “socialist.” Whatever Sanders’ faults (and I am totally opposed to him running again) his legacy is powerful.
@Ocasio2018 is just one of several examples from yesterday. -
Definitely changing but you can see the resistance. The coverage in the NYT downplays the fact that this candidate is a socialist, and plays up the racial factors in her victory (definitely a real factor). This is because diversity is not a threat to capitalism, but socialism is.
-
The
#media will start covering her socialist views soon enough, if for no other reason than that her Republican opponent is likely to make a big deal out of it (and/or argue that her proposals are unrealistic.) Be careful what you wish for! -
No doubt, the red scare is coming

But they are running a big, front page article on Ocasio-Cortez. I know the headline writer and he gave me a sneak peek: "Ocasio-Cortez's Big Win and How Mid-Western Trump Voters Feel About it" Even includes this photo.pic.twitter.com/bLY3rccVt3

I had never heard of her until today's semi-banner headline . . .

That's why you should give up on the Times and read real journalism instead. Like
@inthesetimesmag or@theintercept -
The Intercept rules & has former NYT investigative reporter James Risen among its ranks. Risen has quite a story about how NYT has soft pedaled even refused to publish some of his work.
-
The Intercept has its bias.& was heavily neverHillary. Greenwald made deep State Hillary is as evil as Trump arguments. One of their main analysts only now considers the idea of investigating Russian attacks to be warranted and is ringing alarm bells - a bit late, no?

At least they used her name in the headline, that's more than
@AP did. -
AP's first tweet was atrocious - no name or photo of the winner of an election in a tweet about the election results. The second tweet was marginally better - they somehow found out her name (maybe they Googled her), but were still unable to come up with a photo of her.
