When we discuss types of govts & Japanese history, etc, a lot of the overseas Japanese students I have get kinda confused & surprised when I mention that Japan still has an emperor & a royal family. Its just never really crossed their mind... they look it up & go, "...oh, huh."

One thing I like about the Japanese monarchy is that I rarely ever think about it and often forget it exists. And when I do, I remember that the current monarch is kinda... not really that into the whole monarchy thing, if his graduate school essays are any indication.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but it's the guns. Period. Guns for personal protection do not make you safer. They make you and me less safe. A recent study showed that U.S. life expectancy is 2 years shorter than it otherwise would be - just because of guns.
