i want to love the combat in BOTW, which is more strategic & interesting in theory, but weapon durability just ruins it completely for me.

you don't like weapon variety? Thats one reason why I love the durability system. Forces me to use different weapons.

I'd be okay with it if I could hold more things. Hoping the limit gets bumped up over time.

yes, precisely! design flaw many will encounter early on, i suspect.
