Book 18 of #BlackLGBTHM is The Terrible by @YrsaDaleyWard! I haven't read this one yet, but according to Goodreads it's a "brave, raw, lyrical memoir". Book 19 of #BlackLGBTHM is The Colour Purple by Alice Walker. This one's hard- my life changed when I read this book! Walker's blatant antisemitism feels so out of place in the freedoms her writing evokes. The phenomenon that sees oppressed people try to win back semblances of power with their own oppressing hands is not unique and it's not new

Book 21 of #BlackLGBTHM is (technically a play) A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. Hansberry was a pioneer in Black American playwriting and this play is a landmark moment in Civil Rights history. (this was published in 1930. 33 years later Hughes's short story 'Blessed Assurance' was published in the collection Something in common, and other stories - this time round the theme of homosexuality was explicit. Sometimes, it takes time.)
