I also want to stress the message sent to young women when men with influence claim abuse that happens in youth doesn't really count. Girls are already told to suck it up and get over harassment & assault. Defending young abusers is just another version of that.

I can't stress this enough. I know several women who have been victims of this. It starts with revenge porn and then always escalates to more dangerous behavior.

For something to be considered a "youthful mistake", especially for something that directly harms other people, you'd really want to see active work shown to correct it or do better in the future.

Exactly. I have a daughter that just came through middle school and I can tell you, very few guys acted like that. And the ones that did were jerks and absolutely knew that what they were doing was wrong.
