I have thought about deleting my work email from my phone for this reason. If I have forgotten to respond it’s because I checked from my phone and held off replying bc I needed my computer.

Yup. Anything longer than a sentence or two is too frustrating to write on my phone. But I still think about the message. And then my brain thinks I've sent it.

It’s getting more difficult to tell whether emails are spam or not. I think predatory journals/conferences etc. are getting savvy.

My spouse works in higher ed IT/security - and you're right, they are getting more savvy.

I tell my students this all the time. “It’s not you- it’s me. I saw it, intended on responding, then forgot.”pic.twitter.com/naqJHN4DQY

I tell my students to keep bugging me till I do whatever they are waiting for me to process - persistence is needed
-
Absolutely! Please bug me I say. I also send fairly regular group mails to my postgrads saying "you are working on X, and we have spoken about Y...if this is not true and I have forgotten something, please let me know ASAP. Seems to have helped too.

Sometimes, I read the email, think carefully through my response, and then think that I responded even though I never typed it out.

I now schedule a couple of hours once per month to sort and organize emails. I always find at least 5 I forgot to respond to.
