We can battle COVID-19 and an economic crisis with ... *checks notes* ... tax breaks for the wealthy.https://twitter.com/ChrisCoons/status/1279740161572638721 …

Amid a health crisis & an economic downturn, nonprofits, charities, & houses of worship have stepped up to fulfill community needs. By expanding the charitable deduction for 2020, more Americans can donate to lend a helping hand in our COVID-19 recovery. https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/504588-expanding-the-charitable-deduction-only-makes-sense …

I get ur point, but I’ve worked in the non-profit sector for over a decade, & tax breaks for charitable giving are crucial. People aren’t altruistic enough to give w/out benefit to themselves so we are tasked with solving important social issues, often on a shoe string budget

If we have to give them money to incentivize them to give, why not just tax them and bypass the first part?

So then non-profits will just shutter? We won’t have need for then any longer? We need to tax the wealthy more, no doubt - and I’m no Coons fan - I just don’t agree that more tax incentives for charitable giving is bad.

There are so many tax breaks that only impact the wealthy and make no sense - like writing off a jet purchase. I don’t think criticizing one of the few breaks we regular folks can claim makes much sense as a campaign strategy, sorry.

Thank you for your work! Many of my own experiences at nonprofits drove me to run. The issue I see is that b/c of the changes to tax code in 2017, most regular people can't take advantage of charitable donation tax benefits anymore because the standard deduction is now so high.

And I think that’s a GREAT thing to try and change. It’s very different than the tweet. I want to know the details of what each candidate supports. The trendy language tweets can be funny, but an added layer of context of what you’d do differently would be helpful.
