Among other things, I see clients get their prison wages levied to collect fines and surcharges. And endless cycle of suspended driver's license charges...

Usually damned either way. Private counsel gives a shit so long as the retainer doesn't run dry. A select few can afford to pay the necessary expenses for a thorough defense (investigators, independent experts, etc.)

I appreciate you guys keeping me looped into this thread (how rare!). Your perspective is so insightful and indicative of a justice system that so rarely delivers on that promise.
