    anyway, if anyone is curious about all this you can read my thesis even tho I already hate parts of it. I should turn it into a book but I've been too busy/lazy to try to market it to publishers.

    anyone who wants to understand how we lost our shared set of facts (a whole other problem, btw) needs to understand this story. faux intellectuals, money/poltically-motivated knowledge production, & professional journalism's reliance on elites have been a near-fatal combo.

    in the 1970s conservative business leaders (e.g. Pete Coors) got together w/conservative intellectuals to form a network of partisan think tanks. journalists, grappling (badly) w/the tenet of objectivity, have since taken to presenting this expertise alongside actual expertise.
