What Dr. Fauci and I said was based on the science & conditions at the time, and amounted to “save the medical masks (which were all that was available) for the medical workers.” Both the conditions & the science changed, but what people heard and held to was masks don’t work…

What
@CDCgov said was based on the science & conditions at the time, and amounted to “you’re safe IF you vax it OR mask it.” Both the conditions (rising cases) & the science (delta variant) changed, but what people heard and held to was masks were no longer needed…Show this thread -
Now you have health officials, cities & counties (eg LA County), & likely soon states issuing guidance in direct conflict w/ the mask guidance
@CDCgov issued a month ago. The sooner CDC says we were wrong, & hits the reset button, the better. Trust me- I know more than anyone.Show this thread -
Instead of vax it OR mask it, the emerging data suggests CDC should be advising to vax it AND mask it in areas with
cases and positivity- until we see numbers going back down again.
CDC was well intended, but the message was misinterpreted, premature, & wrong. Let’s fix it.Show this thread

I believe they haven't. I believe you did. We know more now... mistakes can be righted! Don't go back now! We believe in you and "Tony." But I think remasking is important for everyone involved! Don't make the same mistake twice!

I agree 100%. We are vaxed and live in a sleepy Spanish village on the Mediterranean coast. Sleepy for ten months that is. In July and August we have a massive tourist influx which allows local businesses to survive all year. We never go out without a mask!

Even with a vaccine that has 95% protection against hospitalization/death, we may well face more deaths than during earlier waves if Delta (as it is wont to do) leads to vast community prevalence.
-
What concerns me is Delta can mutate into something even worse.

They did. I never understood why they called off the mask mandate when so few ppl were vaccinated. We are still under 50% fully vaccinated nationwide.

My guy, my man here, trying to deflect from his own poor judgement by referencing Fauci as having been in agreement with him. What about Pence, whom you were in agreement with while you worked for him in Indiana and let an AIDS outbreak occur through poor policy?
-
Apparently, I'm the only one who read this different, because Fauci has been getting ALL the blame. This is Dr Adams way of saying that it was a team decision. Back then the CDC, FDA, HHS, Surgeon General, etc were all working together. Fauci was not alone in decision making.
