Discussions of games from countries outside the big ones. (although this is improving) And a general, what feels like willful, ignoring of mobile

Basically I read one really cool article years ago about Arabic shooters and a few pieces on an African visual novel and that seems to be it for non America /EU /Jp games.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but it definitely feels like we're dissecting the same big games over and over while a lot of cool stuff in the indie space goes unheralded
-
Especially as there's often more interesting stuff to say about indie games or trends in indie games. I'd love to do more, but few places would commission it.

Agree with what others are saying here and would add a sense of continuity that lasts more than 18 months. Older voices burnout or move on to better pay. Platforms die or migrate. The discourse repeats itself on the regular. Everything ends up feeling very disposable.

Was going to write this but it feels like this missing is a consequence of some of the other elements in this thread. If there was better understandings of authorship, financial stability, and outlet care for writers I feel like there would be less burnout.

Authorship. I've always felt it was strange that when we review games we rarely mention the directors and writers and almost never anyone else. It would humanize the process and help talented people build reputations for specific skill sets, like UI.
