This narrative needs to change: "The alarming statistics of suicide among trans children whose families are not supportive terrified Ben and Sara. They knew the only thing their children should feel from them is love and acceptance." 1/13https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7296803/amp/Parents-reveal-children-transgender.html?__twitter_impression=true …

Parents can 100% support their children in exploration of gender without fearing suicide, and without medicalizing their child's gender exploration. 2/13

The suicide trope is a horrible scare tactic. It's based on an unreliable study of self reporting adults. NOT KIDS. This pervasive idea that children will kill themselves if parents don't medically transition them, needs to stop. 3/13

Support doesn't have to = medical transition. There is no definitive proof that medical transition is THE best option for children. In order for children to receive the best care for their exploration, there should be other options than the most invasive one on a child's body. 4

Puberty blockers are not benign. Cross sex hormones are not benign. These things are medically invasive treatments done to children. They are experimental, as there isn't enough data to conclusively say it is the best and only way to support gender exploration and/or confusion. 5

Gender dysphoria is a painful thing for a kid. As a parent it's hard to see your child in pain. The manipulative suicide trope is disgusting to me. It preys on parents who want to help their child not feel pain. 6/13

The good news is that you CAN support your child without medical intervention. You CAN help and guide your child out of pain without invasive medical treatments. Let's talk about how to do that. 7/13

What interests does your child have? What are their core values? What do they love to do? Do those things. Connect more with them. Be with them in understanding so they know you are on their team. You can do that in hundreds of ways big and small. 8/13

Love languages apply. My own kid felt love when I'd bring her food. It may seem like a silly thing, but it meant a lot. She didn't need to experience upset over hunger and she didn't need to stop whatever thing she was engaged in to eat. 9/13

Small acts of kindness everyday. That's how you support a child in pain. The pain comes from somewhere. Parents have great influence on children. Use your parental super power of abundant love and support. Your influence is bigger than the pain of gender dysphoria. 10/13

I'll end by saying this; it does not make you virtuous to allow your child to medically transition during their formative years where they are meant to explore. To medically transition removes their ability to explore. You lock them in. 11/13

By signing off on that, at a doctor's office, you are forever altering the course of your child's life, with experimental medical treatment because you didn't feel your own power to support a child through pain and discomfort. 12/13

You literally bought into the idea that your lack would cause your child to die. The narrative needs to change. 13/13
