I'm very much for clean air, but my 22yr old large petrol car is, in terms of NOX and particulates, cleaner than a current generation diesel. Just like the push for switch to diesel, it's politicians pontificating about stuff they don't understand.

It's not just about emissions, it is space considerations as well. Fewer vehicles in the city centre means more efficient public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure. Manchester City centre simply cannot cope with the volume of traffic we have.

This is an air quality charge, not a congestion charge. The congestion charge referendum was nearly 12 years ago too, the results are simply not valid any more.
