    The thread running through all of this is inevitably underfunding: govt hasn’t given GM the social care cash, in particular, to magically buck all the national trends. (NB I did go to the DH for comment but they bounced me to NHS England.)

    Interesting, this. Remembering hearing some grumbling at combined authority level a few months ago at the amount of money being allocated by the mayor’s office to the cycling plan.

    I won’t be signing up to campaign pledge as it would be dishonest. People in North Manchester need decent public transport first, mostly buses, and that should be first priority. Not more stuff for places already well served.

    Don't often look at NHS acute trust agendas, but the last one in Stockport had *8* items on its 'private agenda', including, apparently, both its entire trust-wide strategy and improvement plan. Might be out on a limb here, but that seems like rather a lot.

    Love this, complete with Shudehill and Deansgate.

    Not many older maps of Manchester knocking about than this one from 1650. Confusing orientation aside, it highlights the nucleus of the medieval village, straddling the Irwell, some distance away from the original Roman settlement at Castlefield.

    Lovely to see Sarah quoted in this because she lives and breathes getting it right. The media are far from perfect, as Kerslake amply shows. But neither are we a single homogenous mob of charlatans hellbent on abusing our power.
