My name is Jennifer Rourke, and I am running to represent Rhode Island’s 29th district in the State Senate. As a working-class mother and wife, I know what it is like to face the consequences of our broken government.
White friends gather close, I have a serious question for you: why do so many of y'all respond with disbelief when people of color share experiences of racism with you? Is is naivete, denial or delusion? Cuz not everybody is lying and it's very exhausting when y'all do that
H/T A close watcher of bill introductions flagged this entry today: a proposed "School Security Volunteer program," to authorize former police, military veterans, National Guard etal to carry "a handgun in providing the security services" in RI schools.

It makes me sick to my stomach that I told so many people about how this piece of shit man harassed me for a full year & now he’s getting published in Harper’s Bazaar writing about MLK. This is what I mean when I say there are no real consequences for abusive men.
The problem is we have a whole lot of rich moderates w/ vaguely liberal beliefs who spend their time surrounded by rich republicans so they think they’re the left until a real leftist shows up—then they start calling the left extremists + tryna placate their right wing buddies.
Y’all are supporting a dude that says he supports BIPOC folks that want to run for office but does everything in his privileged power to try & tear down an organization founded by a Black woman that helps working class folks.
Nah. I’m good. I’ll move & run before I support him
Please consider testifying for @bhenriesri $19 minimum wage bill. This will not only get us to $19 but then sets it to CPI and gets rid of the tipped minimum wage.
Former state Rep. Aaron Regunberg tells me he is "exploring a run" for RI's soon to open 1st Congressional District seat. Short timeline for making a decision. Stay tuned.
It 100% does the complete opposite! And folks may be surprised to find out who are the ones doing the most stopping and blocking of progress.
All I can say is be careful who says they are for the people and who is only for themselves. twitter.com/jeaninecalkin/…
On this morning's roundtable, @IanDonnis asked RIDOT Director Alviti “how does Rhode Island compare to other states on pedestrian injuries and deaths?”
What Alviti said next was one of the most misleading distortions of data I have ever heard:
For Political Roundtable with @PeterAlviti, we played back some of the audio from his confirmation hearing this week in Senate Finance

If you’re gonna come onto Beyonce’s internet & start calling out Leftists, maybe make sure you’re not coming for the ones who are actually out there doing the work every damn day while most of the folks yall elected are up at the State House bowing down to leadership & lobbyists
This is an issue yes but not everyone can afford a pint or handle of alcohol.
As the family member of a recovering alcoholic sometimes all that he could afford was a nip. That nip helped him avoid the horrible withdrawal symptoms.
Put out barrels. Sponsor more cleanups.
Consistently black women have to do the labor of holding political organizations they are a part of accountable.
To demand that they be who they said they are!
Progressive politicians, its really simple:
Do what you said you were going to do.
Be who you said you were.
Stand firm with the people you said were important.
Because working class & marginalized folks don't need another reason to distrust their government. #integrity
I’m late because life has been extremely difficult lately but it’s BLACK HISTORY MONTH!!
I’m not going to post the AMAZING contributions that we have made to our society.
But I’m asking you all to educate yourself. If you’re up to it, share something that you learned below⬇️⬇️
#OTD January 28, 2000, Cornel Young Jr., an African American man in the Providence Police Department, was shot dead by fellow officers. In plain clothes, Young had rushed to help two officers deal with a confrontation. Instead, they shot him. #OnThisDayhttps://apnews.com/article/54bcba825c9ef38765876d81f16d7e67…
Let’s be clear: the word “woke” is just another word for Black. When people are talking about “wokeness”, they are talking about Black equality, Black dignity, and Black liberation. That is what they hate. They are anti-Black. It has always been about white supremacy and power.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy is having champagne rolled in to his office—and for what?
Part of what’s wrong with our government is our elected officials are more concerned with their own career success than improving the lives of Americans.
We’ll be taking some time off around the holidays, but if you need to contact us, please reach out here or to one of our co-chairs @jeaninecalkin, @JenRourke29. #HappyHolidays
It hurt me to write this.
We **cannot** allow another anti-LGBTQ, anti-choice conservative to be elevated into Woonsocket City Council leadership, and eventually to state office like Jon Brien was. Please share far and wide.
And Woony folks, read below:
The doors to hotels are opening for some and the armory is a warming center but what is the plan for after?
We need a REAL answer to this housing crisis not bandaids. Why aren’t we building low income & affordable housing?
No one wants to say it but many of these union leaders are 100% in cahoots with heads of industry. These folks arent looking out for workers. They're looking after their own career prospects and are using the vehicle of worker plight to get to the next rung on the ladder.
There's been such a coordinated effort to convince you that progressive Black & brown women in office—who serve & lead from lived experiences—are the Democratic equivalent of white supremacist right-wingers who persecute, marginalize & incite violence on the rest of us.
Stop it.
