As much as it would fit into my own politics of worrying about and wanting to raise awareness about radicalized misogyny, I was disappointed with @CBCNews for running with that "unverified" Facebook post the way they did.
2- the throw away "this isn't verified" was far outshadowed by the whole segment, plus talking head, that they had discussing the dangers of MRA and incel types. It was a cheap caveat. It was contingent ill-informed "news." They should have done better.

3- as a security scholar who also happens to have a Muslim background, I have noted with sadness and resignation, the judgements and assumptions that are made in this hot-take media climate when men who may have Muslim backgrounds commit crimes. All heresay becomes news fodder

4- My lament: the media doesn't wait for truth and factual information as much as they should. Correcting bad information after the fact doesn't erase the amplifying effect of that info and it discredits all subsequent reporting

5- it may have emerged today that the Facebook post is real and was deleted by Facebook as per their rules about mass murderers. But the CBC didn't know that yesterday. And now the people who would benefit from knowing the truth of this will wave it away as conjecture.

6- Do better
@CBCNews. Do better Twitter peeps. We are morally inconsistent if we do not apply this across the board. If we don't, we are no better than all the hatemongers who prematurely lay every act of violence on the doorsteps of Muslims.Show this thread

I also thought they focused disproportionately given there was legit doubt about authenticity (and still doubt about whether it mattered).
