For 80 years black Americans counted as 3/5ths. For 130 years woman didn’t count at all. Thanks for keeping up. Things change.
I invite people to read The Second Amendment and Scalia’s Majority Opinion in Heller published 6/2/14 and found at http://alansacker.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-second-amendment-and-scalias.html ….
The propaganda is so entrenched now.
Try telling this to an NRA member. The misinformation about the limits of the 2nd amendment are deeply misunderstood. Thanks for the info Jeff!pic.twitter.com/9YCGEjQfrF
The first ruling by the USSC was a racial one protecting whites from murder of armed black men
Heller states explicitly that this is not an unlimited right. Bans on assault/military style weapons could absolutely be enacted.
Just like the Supreme Court decision on abortion.
Hasn't Scalia effectively modified 2A by decree? If a private right exists apart from a Militia, let them get it modified formally.
Didn't agree with him much, but on this I did and still do:pic.twitter.com/YcIzhDcIb9
It's almost as if the words "well regulated" were in the Second Amendment somewhere...
For most of American history, the @USSupremeCourt did NOT prevent anti-abortion laws.
Unfortunately, those clutching their guns while everything else is being taken away from them, think God gave them the right to carry assault weapons. I missed that passage in the bible. I only remember "Thou shalt not kill".
"They mock the so-called liberal idea of a 'living' constitution..." "...But there is no better example of the living Constitution than the conservative re-casting of the Second Amendment in the last few decades of the twentieth century."
2. The additional power/latitude. This ruling overturned over 200 years of SCOTUS rulings. The biggest obstacle to effective gun control is 50 states each having different gun laws. If it's hard to get a gun in Chicago Illinois, I can drive into Indiana & purchase one easily.
1. In my opinion for over 200 years SCOTUS rulings limited the power of federal gov. to regulate gun ownership. However, these same SCOTUS rulings provided more latitude/power to state & local gov. to regulate gun ownership. The 2008 Heller case stripped the states & local gov.
