Note the mostly buried news that State Dept closed @HillaryClinton email probe with this verdict: no big deal. As a journalist, I regret my role in blowing this story out of proportion.

In a way, he did. But, he was put in an invidious position. If he didn't publish their existence, and that fact came out later, all hell would have broken loose. The timing was atrocious - which, of course, was the intention of them being provided at that point.
