Cohen committed crimes "In co-ordination with, and at the direction of" @realDonaldTrump . Thus, President appears to be co-conspirator and/or aider and abettor of a federal crime.

Nixon was impeached for being unindicted co-conspirator. Trump was just named in essence an unindicted co-conspirator

Thanks Jeff! I don’t think Nixon was impeached though - House drafted 3 articles of impeachment and sent them to the full house but Nixon resigned before there was a trial?

Yes of course. Shorthand. Actually only the House Judiciary Committee voted for articles of impeachment. The full House didn't reach the issue when Nixon resigned at the urging of GOP Senators who informed him that not only would he be impeached, but he would be convicted.

The Nixon debacle taught them that was the reason they lost. Now they know better than to care.

Ummm, so is this one of them “high crimes and misdemeanors” I was readin’ bout in my here copy of the constitution?

Depends. "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" is basically an 18th-century term of art the framers intended to mean "whatever the House of Representatives decides merits removal from office." So if the House impeaches him, it does; if they don't, it doesn't.

Impeachment does not necessarily mean removal from office. Nixon resigned. Clinton did not resign.

Impeachment is the process of accusing an official of "high crimes and misdemeanors" meriting their removal from office. If the official is impeached, the Senate then holds a trial to determine whether to remove the offender.

Johnson and Clinton were the only two to make it out of the House to go to the senate. Both resigned before trial. Nixon resigned before it even left the house. Basically once impeachment is filed in the house and approved, you may as well just resign. No one trusts you anymore.
