Please see the comments coming in from expert biologists like explaining why these insertions are coincidence and highly unlikely to be from HIV

Si on revient à nos bactos 🦠, cette caractéristique exceptionnelle nous permet notamment de contrôler leur déplacement en appliquant un champs magnétique précis. Plutôt cool, non ? 😎

This is misguided. I support research directed at societal problems but also know that in Biology discovery research is also critical. When folks started working on the obscure mechanism of action of reverse transcriptase, AIDS was still decades away....

I love that when I asked the PI where the idea of making lab-grown venom glands came from, he laughed and said, “That is what I asked my Ph.D. students.”

We posted a new manuscript on bioRxiv. Briefly, we improved genetically encoded phycocyanobilin (PCB) synthesis, which we have named "synPCB". This is a small improvement, but will make it easier to implement phytochrome-based optogenetics.

The for Bioimage Analysis course we ran in December was very successful. We trained 47 scientists. If you missed the course, but want to access and work through the content, the online resource is now available online: videos slides and practicals

I love this analogy of how the biological sciences work. We are reverse engineering very complex systems without the benefit of a parts list. It also hints at the wonder us lucky scientists experience at work: we get to see the our favorite radios” self assemble on a daily basis

In this example we illuminate the cells with a 300ms blue light pulse at 1Hz. We use to control the LEDs. Full inactivation of the module(in this case pi-EB1), requires long exposures(~400ms), because we're illuminating from the top.

We also describe a 3D printed for control in 2 wells of a 12 well plate, and which fits inside a stagetop incubator. This design allows for multi-position imaging and is compatible with
