Recovering from addiction as an atheist or agnostic is possible. The 12 steps have wisdom, but they've failed to evolve. My book is my effort to give non-believers a way through.

  2. I really love the version of "Africa." It's such a great reminder to listen Toto's version of "Africa."

  5. There are direct and indirect victims of violent crime out there who are seeing an alleged rapist be worshipped. Their feelings are valid. Many people have lost someone they saw as an idol. Their feelings are valid too. Life is complex, people are complex. Seek to understand.

  8. There's no time like the present. You can choose to stop hurting yourself RIGHT NOW. It's not easy, but it's possible. Find a support group, therapist, or treatment center and jump into the process. It'll be the best decision you ever make.

  10. There is a solution for atheists and agnostics as well. Sobriety doesn't require religion or faith in a god.

  13. Lost a long-time friend to addiction today. Some people make it out and some people don't. I wish I fully understood why. My hope for the near future is that everyone who needs it has access to professional help.

  16. It's frightening how much of Twitter is filled with individuals with extreme opinions who can't or won't listen to the opinions of others. Living in an echo chamber is dangerous. Let's learn how to have respectful conversations about even the most difficult issues.

  17. The secret to getting sober is that there is no secret. It's a lifestyle change that can be attained and maintained through consistent action and social support. No gods, higher powers, or supernatural beliefs necessary.

  21. Requiring belief in God or a higher power in order to recover from addiction is outdated. Recovery is a lifestyle that can be achieved through practical actions and mental/emotional changes.
