If you're thinking, "It's just a movie!" I'm here to tell you that this specific stereotype, which exists entirely in the minds of fiction writers, makes my female colleagues' jobs more difficult on a regular basis. Many men who make news believe it and try to sleep with them.
And, again, I can't emphasize enough how lame it is to traffic is such tired tropes, even if they were based in reality. If you are that bad of a writer, quit.
As others have pointed it, this example is especially egregious because the character who does this has the name of a real woman reporter who's dead and can't defend herself.

It's a portrayal that Olivia Wilde defends (one that has occurred in recent times, Ali Watkins and Amanda Macias) and nothing compared to the damage Kathy Scruggs caused Mr. Jewell.
Oh, well then it's totes cool to smear Kathy Scruggs by making up stories that she used sex to get a story, I guess, right?
