  2. History will repeat itself. 55 yrs ago, the largest civil rights protest—the ‘64 NYC school boycott— took place but city & state leaders &New Yorkers refused to desegregate. Again young people take the lead to hold NYC accountable for its still segregated & unequal schools May 18

People who create distance between Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin miss an opportunity to connect the history of Black women's antiracist organizing in Alabama. Do not make them rivals. Call out the NAACP's patriarchy while honoring WPC's work. Learn about the WPC. 1/

“Here we have 1 of the most famous Americans of the 20thC & yet treated like a sort of kid’s book hero. We diminish her legacy by making it all about 1 day, 1 act, as opposed to the rich, lifelong history of resistance that was who Rosa Parks was” HBD

Political scientist Jeanne Theoharis wrote an excellent book about the radicalism of Rosa Parks. Theoharis discusses how b/c of Parks’ bravery during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Parks & her family were harassed incessantly with death threats, hate calls, & were nearly destitute.

"I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was 42. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.” ~ Rosa Parks"

A badass biography about a badass activist! Celebrate ’s birthday by learning her WHOLE story. Her 6 decades of activism can’t be summed up in just a single act on a bus.

Read this thread that is a profile in courage and great audit of the activism and life of Rosa Parks, beyond the footnote of her moment of dissent.
