200,000 Americans have died to COVID-19. Congress has a responsibility to help every American struggling to get through this crisis, and the need has never been more urgent. We need a new relief bill. Here's what it ought to include (thread):
Families need food assistance, rent stabilization and eviction protection, and health care staff and frontline workers deserve hazard pay for their efforts fighting the virus. Nursing homes that have been hard-hit in NH need support for their staff and residents.
Small businesses need a lifeline to continue to keep their doors open and keep staff on the payroll. For those that have lost their jobs, we need to extend unemployment benefits, and subsidize childcare services for working parents.
State and local governments need funding to provide emergency services and support our first responders. And we need to invest in a national testing and tracing strategy so that we can restore our economy, and keep our kids safe at school and workers safe on the job.
That’s what I’m fighting for, because half-measures won’t cut it. Let’s stop the partisan tactics and deliver an aid package that addresses this urgent need for help.
