NH was the last state in the country to not recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a statewide holiday.
21 years ago today, that changed when I signed it into law as Governor of NH.

MLK dedicated his life to creating a better world, and he made an enormous difference. But his efforts also stirred hate, exposing racism and some of the deepest problems affecting our nation, and he was killed in the pursuit of justice. To honor him, we must continue his fight.
And today, that fight is clear as ever. I stand with everyone in New Hampshire outraged over the senseless murders of unarmed Black men and women. We must fight the rampant inequality we continue to see in our society.
We can build a stronger America that works for everyone, but we have to work together to make that happen.
21 years ago, we stood together with Black leaders like the late Rev. Arthur Hilson, Representatives Lionel Johnson and Jackie Weatherspoon, and so many others who made MLK Jr. Day a NH holiday.
