It’s not presented like that, they ask you and according to HIPAA they have to give you the pros and cons. Educate the parents, don’t blame the doctors for doing their job. It’s not like they enjoy extra work.

For both my sons, we were badgered 6 times each to sign off on medically unnecessary surgery on their healthy genitals. Surely you know doctors profit from pushing this cosmetic surgery. They deserve blame for that. We said no, then they gave us medically harmful care advice too.

Dude, if a doctor pressured you to do surgery and you had an issue with it take it up with the hospital. Your anecdote isn’t representative of the healthcare system.

In a healthcare system where more than half of all male newborns are genital-mutilated (for no reason and purpose whatsoever other than making money) there is MUCH WRONG.

So you have an issue with fully privatised healthcare?

I have issue with profiteering hospitals and doctors badgering parents about performing medically unnecessary, cosmetic surgery on their healthy child's genitals. If you don't, you're part of the problem.

So you have an issue with private healthcare. I do too. Luckily I live in a country with a pretty nice public healthcare system too. But anyway, that’s getting sort of off-track. Should there be a total ban on circumcision or not?

You do realise no one, literally no one, has argued circumcision should be banned outright. What we're arguing it should not be used until there are no other therapeutic options available, and that medical staff should be aware that circ should be an absolute last resort.

A female's life would have to be in grave danger before a doctor would recommend cutting her genitals for any reason. The same should apply for boys.

Nope, it’s always banned. No situation where it’s medically necessary or provides any benefits. That’s why we don’t apply the same standard, not because the government hates men.

You live in Australia. Where 80% of men are not cut, and there is no epidemic of men suffering from chronic 'anything' that would result in circumcision being necessary. You make me want to argue for a total ban, FFS.
