The corticosteroids are used with the stretching. That’s the 70%. Otherwise it’s time for surgery.

You’ll find (by reading all of the replies I’ve written) that I agree with you. That’s why the idea that surgery should be considered before anything else isn’t my argument. I’m arguing that it is a medical procedure and has multiple valid uses, unlike female circumcision.
-
If you to argue that, I would argue then that it should be used as a last resort 'treatment', never as a prophylactic procedure. I'd like doctors to stop recommending it so quickly. It gives people the impression it's the best way to treat these problems.

It’s not presented like that, they ask you and according to HIPAA they have to give you the pros and cons. Educate the parents, don’t blame the doctors for doing their job. It’s not like they enjoy extra work.

For both my sons, we were badgered 6 times each to sign off on medically unnecessary surgery on their healthy genitals. Surely you know doctors profit from pushing this cosmetic surgery. They deserve blame for that. We said no, then they gave us medically harmful care advice too.
-
Dude, if a doctor pressured you to do surgery and you had an issue with it take it up with the hospital. Your anecdote isn’t representative of the healthcare system.
-
My anecdote is absolutely representative of the U.S. healthcare system: almost every male birth in the U.S. brings with it solicitation of the medically unnecessary, cosmetic amputation of their foreskin. Simply them asking even once constitutes a violation of ethics.
-
Nope. The doctor asks because he wants the parents to weigh up a higher chance of infection early with sexual pleasure later. Why not convince more parents that it’s worth it?
-
When you say shit like this, I can't figure out if you're arguing for parents to be given the option before any issues have occurred, or if you think it should be available if said issues cannot be resolved another way.
