The flu shot can prevent some winter illness. But Pediatricians in the NICU may still be carrying a dozen other viruses which endanger babies. We should wear masks because of nasal carriage of routine organisms. Handwashing is crucial too. https://twitter.com/greta/status/1208841741559877635 …

Hopefully we can develop vaccines for the other pathogenic viruses too.

Where to start? They are Neonatologists. It's a fellowship trained specialty of Pediatrics. There are strict protocols in place for all healthcare workers in the NICU who are ill. Maybe connect with a Neo doc and ask any questions you have?

Well, in the NICU that saved the lives of my boys who were born at 26 weeks hand hygiene was obsessive. Lots of face masks too. Also no children allowed to visit due to risk of infection. So what exactly is your point? These are not done instead of vaccination.

The flu shot is critical in prevention of spreading the flu. As surgeons we wear masks in the OR. We also get flu shots. And wash our hands. Before and after.
