    Been saying THIS for 10+++ years -- publisher(s) that have significant IMPACT & INFLUENCE (able to move them to other platforms, monetize thru events, product sales, etc.) with COMMUNITIES (not just audience) have the best opp to have REAL businesses.

    Hard to over communicate how incredible of a job has done. She took a company of about 20 “employees” and $5m in revenue that was not growing much and built a $100m rev and profitable company in less than four years. She is a friend, force, and a world class exec.

    Digital media should be profitable if you 1. don't raise too much $ @ high expectations 1. don't chase unprofitable growth at behest of VCs, 2. don't try to replicate fat traditional cost structures, 3. realize that you need not be everything to everyone

    So allow me to spoil the party on digital media profitability revival hopes, coz, why not? 1) None will be profitability machines, most will stay barely above water 2) Historical valuations still sky high 3) Means no one is getting out great in exits.

    1/ One of my big takeaways is that culture matters *A LOT*. Integrating two groups of people who start at far ends of the culture spectrum is nearly impossible. It might be able to solely explain why media is so bad at doing tech and tech is so bad at doing media...
