Due to hiring freezes & our prioritization of felonies, our misdemeanor team shrunk as we kept filing new cases. The result: average caseloads rose from ~150 in 2019 to nearly 250 today. That is too many cases for one attorney, no matter how hard working. We need more lawyers.
Given the reports of skyrocketing repeat burglaries and drug dealing, perhaps that is a major contributor to the spike in misdemeanors? How about breaking SF’s ridiculous catch, release and repeat cycle?
