Well for a lot of GPGPU work a compute shader is not cutting it. CUDA is NVIDIA only, many other options are vendor specific as well. OCL on the other hand: Good support on AMD, Intel, NVIDA, and even on many Android devices. But, I talk to much too soon, what do you suggest?

Having seen significant trivial bugs on all those vendors when I had to use it I'm inclined to disagree here of course. While all solutions have their problems, I don't think there are a lot of problems left for which HLSL + Vulkan (or DirectX 12) can't be used.
